The reason why you might see a lot of houses use these large "side walk blocks" (the actual name is a "Winston Slab") is because they are cheap to install. The down side of that, is they very often do not have a compacted aggregate base underneath them, so the blocks/slabs move over time, creating a tripping hazard and a snow removal nightmare in the winter. We were able to find a cost effective solution for this client by re-grading underneath the existing stones and simply re-installing them afterwards.
